There is no doubt that having a microwave at home makes your life easier. You can heat up your food to unbelievable temperatures in a matter of seconds. You can even cook the food from scratch in a microwave. However, this doesn’t mean that you should go for this option. There are certain health risks posed by eating microwave-cooked food. This is why you should avoid using the microwave to cook food. Here’s why:

Electromagnetic Fields Created By the Microwave

Without a doubt, the technology used in the microwave is state-of-the-art. It is complicated to understand, but you can get the essence of the way it works quite easily. A device called a magnetron is used in microwaves. This device is primarily responsible for performing the task for which the microwave is intended. The magnetron creates an electromagnetic field.

This field or alternating current triggers the electrons in food. The electrons when triggered are stimulated rapidly. This causes them to rub against each other, leading kinetic energy to convert to heat energy. This cooks or heats up the food. In essence, this process can easily be classified as radiation, and it changes the structure of the food’s molecules.

Change in Taste and Texture of Food

Another reason to avoid using the microwave is the change it brings about in the consistency and taste of food. You may have already noticed this. If not, you can use a simple experiment to test this yourself. You should prepare a food item to cook and divide it in two sections. First, cook one portion in an oven or on the stove. Cook the second portion in the microwave; then taste the two. You will find that the taste of the respective portions is different.

In most cases, even the texture of the food is altered by the microwave rays. This change in molecular structure is caused when the food is exposed to radiation. Moreover, if you use plastic utensils to cook food, the chemicals from some of these utensils often make their way into the food.
